Summer is over.....cooling trend in Los Angeles

I noticed this morning a little bit of chill in the air as I started out on my trip around 6am PST. I wear full helmet, and armored jacket and leg protection so I don't feel the chill, and also the fairing on the scooter helps. I have been really attempting to keep my speed down around the posted limit as I can see how anything over that can exponentially lead to a big mess. Going down a street at 35mph you feel a lot more in control than you do at 45-50mph.
My 01' Honda Reflex now has almost 11k miles on the clock and it is proving very dependable. I keep up the service and oil changes. It is soon due for some inspections at the dealer and I will have them done. One must take into account the added cost of ownership of "gas saving" vehicles in the scheme of things. I am for sure in the hole with my purchase of the used scooter and all the extras like service, MSF classes, insurance, helmet etc. But I am really enjoying the daily commute on my scooter.

Hot in Los Angeles

The morning ride at 6am is ok, but coming home at 4pm is the pits. I dress for the ride so I have some heavy clothing on and it gets pretty hot if you are sitting in traffic. I have been splitting lanes when I come up to red lights (If people leave enough room) and that saves me some time on my commute home. I notice some drivers move out of my way and it seems others are oblivious or just plain want to cut off my path between the cars. Oh well.........
My new front tire is great, the old one was getting old and wore out weird as I think the previouse owner(s) did not ride with proper inflation. For the items I don't want to attempt to repair/replace myself I use Glendale Honda, it is a small family owned shop and they and they are very fair and do great work. I got my front tire replaced while I waited last week after work, can't beat that.

The road less traveled

This morning I decided to alter my route to work, just for the fun of it. My normal ride in the morning takes me from my home in Glassell Park through Silver Lake and south of Hollywood along Beverly Drive to Highland and then south to the Miracle Mile area on Wilshire Boulevard. This morning I decided to take San Fernando Road south to the Chinatown area, then downtown to 2nd street, into the 2nd street tunnel (you've seen it a thousand times in movies etc) and then left on Beaudry and right on 6th and then crossing over to Wilshire and through Koreatown to work. I found this morning's ride very nice as it afforded me long stretches of open road (San Fernando etc) and a change of scenery. I leave for work as close as 6am as I can, so at that hour in the morning traffic is very light in Los Angeles, it is also a lot cooler than my 4pm commute home. I might look for some other routes to try soon, I like the change.
